The essay “What It Was Like, Part Two” reveals how it felt to pick up the role again nine years later, and what doing so has meant to her. Some more things you will learn about Lauren: She once tried to go vegan just to bond with Ellen DeGeneres, she’s aware that meeting guys at awards shows has its pitfalls (“If you’re meeting someone for the first time after three hours of hair, makeup, and styling, you’ve already set the bar too high”), and she’s a card-carrying REI shopper (“My bungee cords now earn points!”).Including photos and excerpts from the diary Graham kept during the filming of the recent this book is like a cozy night in, catching up with your best friend, laughing and swapping stories, and—of course—talking as fast as you can.

4,5 stars. You could call this a book or name it for what it is: Lauren Graham talking to you, sharing her experiences. More times than not I could hear Lauren's voice and I just had to read just a little bit faster to catch up. This is the first book ever I've read and finished(!) on the first day it's out and about. Yes, okay, that's also partly due to the fact the other books where just too big to finish in one day. But that's in no way a critique on this book. I've waited almost feverishly for this book to arrive, which it eventually did at 3.45 pm, way too late for my taste. And not knowing what to expect exactly, I was pleasantly surprised. I recognised Lauren's voice immediately and also a bit of Lorelai. Having cherished the Gilmore Girls for so long it felt like a special treat to be given 4 whole new episodes which I really liked. Yes, off course I didn't like some things about, but it is a real story about real life. I wouldn't change a thing out pure happiness of 4 new episodes! 6 more hours of the Gilmore Girls! And to me the last four words made perfect sense (after I had a chance to process them, never would I've expected those words to be the words that they are). As Lauren says in the book, it is a cliffhanger and yet at the same time could be the perfect ending to a show which has meant so much to me over the years. And on top of those new episodes there is also a new book by Lauren Graham. It was an easy and fast read, which was pretty much inevitable with a title 'Talking as fast as I can'. I had to take a break from reading in order to have dinner with my boyfriend, you know, because you can't ignore your loved ones for a book.. Well actually, turns out, you can for the rest of the night... O wait I kinda knew that already from reading other great books. Lauren talks a bit about her early life, her schooling, her various jobs, family and boyfriends. She also talks about how she got around to writing her first book 'Someday, Someday, Maybe' and her struggles with writing. I found this an interesting topic and I can recommend anyone who has to write anything at all to read the chapter 'kitchen timer' which has the wonderful advice Lauren receiver from Dan Roos in it. I definitely plan on using this excellent piece of advice in the future. So in the end I have nothing left to say but this: thank you Lauren for giving us this wonderful insight in your life!

I laughed, I almost cried, I stayed up way too late reading this and will definitely regret the lack of sleep in the morning, but it was worth it. From all the Gilmore insights and tales, to Hollywood diets and writerly advice, this book is varied but strangely cohesive, much like life. You know the saying "Celebrities: They're Just Like Us!"? Well I'm pretty sure Lauren Graham is just like us with more money and people to help her stay organized. No, seriously. It's good to know that fast-talking wit and occasional nonsensical blathering are normal, because I do those things too.I also love how confused/riled up Lauren was about the new ending. YES GIRL, ITS A CLIFFHANGER; WE'RE UPSET TOO!Also, the tattoo story is funny, and much the internal battle I've had about wanting a tattoo because they're edgy and cool, but they're oh so permanent and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. that I would want would be a cliché in one of the cliché girly tattoo spots. Additionally, Old Lady Jackson is probably my alter ego because I'm essentially an 80-year-old woman.I know most will probably call this another run-of-the-mill Hollywood memoir that only sells because Lauren is famous, or not "real" memoir (I can just picture how brining this up in memoir class in college would have went). However, I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed it. Famous or not, Lauren Graham's life is more interesting than mine and her stories are quirky and entertaining. Who says a memoir has to focus on a great tragedy, or sadness, or insanity, or sexual identity? It doesn't; it shouldn't. Sometimes it's okay to just laugh.

Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between) by Lauren Graham is a collection of personal essays from the actress about her life and roles on Gilmore Girls and Parenthood. Superbly crafted, the biographical essays are enjoyable, and so refreshingly different from the many others which we often come across so often. One thing that strikes me immediately was the ease with which Lauren talked about her life, which to me sounds as if we were on a one-on-one. It was personal and, above all, there was a sense of intimacy. If you can recall the funny and fast-talking Lorelei Gilmore, you’ll realize how appropriate it is for Lauren Graham to name her book Talking as Fast as I Can. Only a little over two hundred pages, the book is also a fast read, with not much that will really bother her fans. The forty-nine years old author and actress recollects her childhood, the beginning of her career as an actor and how she landed her part on Gilmore Girls. In short, one can sum up the book as before and after Gilmore Girls. It may not be an intimate portrait but it still is a self-portrait of her life and career which her fans will relish. While Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between) is an easy and enjoyable read, one shouldn’t expect too much from Lauren Graham. Unlike Kathy Griffin's Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index which was also recently released, Lauren Graham has flatly refused to offer juicy tidbits on or off the set. The pictures which were splattered all over the book speak much about her life, and added a touch of reality to her otherwise fairytale-like success story.

I pre-ordered this over a month ago, as soon as I finished Someday, Someday, Maybe, because I love the way Lauren Graham writes.Like Someday, Someday, Maybe, I listened to the audiobook verision of Talking as Fast as I Can because I also LOVE hearing her voice. Especially in this collection of personal essays, it's so great hearing all the nuiances in her writing, how she enunciates certain words, and hearing her sing a little bit! As a Gilmore Girls obsessive, I obviously loved hearing her recount tale from the set, from both the original run and the revival. But I really liked hearing about her childhood (there is a bit where she has a conversation with her dad which is just so heartwarmingly funny), and her days as a struggling actress in New York. What really resonated with me the most was hearing about writing her first book. As a writer and aspiring published author myself, it was really interesting to hear about what inspired her writing process and the journey it took to get Someday, Someday, Maybe published. It's a fairly short read - or listen, in my case. I managed to get through it in one 4 hour sitting. Really brilliant, charming and heartfelt, do pick this up if you're a fan of Lauren Graham and her work on Gilmore Girls and Parenthood!

I have been in love with Lauren since 2004, when I was 11/12 years old and watched Gilmore Girls for the first time. She is a fantastic writer and I loved learning more about the woman behind my favorite character of all time. Lauren's writing makes you feel like you're hanging out and catching up with your best friend. Such a smart and funny woman, this book was a joy to read through. Hearing her take on the original run of Gilmore Girls and her ever-changing hair styles left me feeling nostalgic for my experience with first watching the show, and how much love I have for it. In What It Was Like, Part 2, the tears flowed steadily from start to finish. Knowing that she has so much love for the show and appreciation for the fans made my heart burst with happiness. If you are a fan of Gilmore Girls, you MUST read this book! My only criticism is that it was too short; her stories and memories left me wanting so much more! I will definitely be reading this again in the very near future.P.S. After reading this, I am 100% certain that there's going to be more Gilmore Girls.

What a fast listen, the 4 hours flew by, and I am so glad I pre-ordered the audiobook, I am sure the experience wouldn’t have been the same if it wasn’t narrated by Lauren herself. You get small glimpses into her life from the beginning, through her rise as an actress, to where she landed in Gilmore Girls and everything from there. I really enjoyed all the little tales she had to share. I also respect her for not making this an expose piece where she just shares a lot of dirt about herself and cast members. Have to admit that I did skip the last couple of chapters as that is where she shares her experience and some spoilers about the new Gilmore Girls revival and I am still not done watching it, as I am savouring each episode. (Will update this review once I have listened to it)Definitely, would recommend this to any fans of the fast talking, Lauren Graham, she will always be my Lorelei Gilmore.

I enjoyed this, though mostly because it's Lauren. It's not a memoir you can easily quote from or would reread for wisdom but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. Not sure I learned a ton either - her thoughts on most topics are fairly conventional and her opinion on Gilmore Girls is easily summed up in one sentence - she really loved filming the revival, and it shows. Lorelai is on the verge of tears several times in the revival and you could tell it was Lauren being emotional too. Some feelings you just can't fake. The best part was reading about the filming conditions on Parenthood. What a great, great work place that was. Made me want to binge watch the show all over again. All in all, I wouldn't call this a must-read, but it's a nice little add-on.

People often refer to the old classic movie stars as inspiring and favorite people. At age 26 and obviously not having lived through the golden era of Hollywood I just don't have that connection. Lauren Graham is what I'm assuming Audrey Hepburn or fill in the blank actress is too people. She is so amazing as Lorelei Gilmore and through listening to her life story and how she has such a great "head on her shoulders" as any grandmother would say lol she is inspiring and Gilmore Girls means so much to me. It's ridiculous to think how much at times. Those last words in this book make me very happy!

Fun, entertaining, and full of personality <3Speaking as a purely biased source, Lauren Graham is amazing and has a genuine warmth and friendly feeling in her writing.I decided to listen to this book as an audio book, and hearing it read by Lauren added a great sense of listening to a friend share some of her experiences in life. However, the inclusion of "see photo __" was a little awkward on audio, but it was still fun and I will probably listen to it again very soon, which is a great recommendation from me, considering the fact that I never re-listen to audio books.

Love, tears. More tears. Yes this just came out today. what's your point. I had to. It's the perfect way to wrap up my last week of Gilmore filled life. I loved Lauren Graham's novel and her mini memoir is just as great. She recaps all her seasons of Gilmore Girls including the revival. She also notes that the final four words are more of a cliffhanger...and no one wanted to comment on it. she talks about writing her novel, Parenthood, and lots of other tales. But she is super gracious and funny. I love it, love her, and of course love Gilmore Girls.

4.5I read this on an Audiobook, my first ever Audiobook, and just the fact that Lauren actually read the whole thing in her distinctive, fast-talking, compelling, and all so familiar voice, made it ten thousand times better. Getting to know a little bit more about an actress I love and her life was a privilege. She is funny, clever, witty and knows how to entertain, and this book is not different.Full disclosure: You might want to watch the revival of Gilmore Girls before you dive into this. Better yet! watch the whole 7 seasons of gilmore girls and the revival!

Gilmore Girls is one of my favorite shows and I can't wait to see the reboot. When I saw this book pop up on my library's site I grabbed it. This was a quick read, one where we got to see a bit of Graham's childhood and why she is like she is, how she got into acting, what Hollywood is like to her and best of all, her time at Gilmore Girls. If you are a fan, definitely grab this one, it is a great way to spend a few hours.

3.5 stars, but alas I do not have that choice. I should start with I love Lauren Graham and I really love Gilmore Girls. This book is a series of short essays about her life. Everything to being single and how to stick to writing a book. I feel like a lot of her advice was applicable to all types of people and all types of situations. I may have read it as fast as she speaks on Gilmore, but very much enjoyed it.

So easy and enjoyable to read--it was as if Lauren simply spoke her novel and had it transcribed. Didn't like the Project Runway chapter though, it seemed like she was apologizing for a bad performance. Interesting to hear about her background in acting and publishing. Perfect companion to the Gilmore revival!

Lo he devorado. Es lista y graciosa, aunque por escrito no tanto como ella piensa, me han gustado mucho más las partes en las que se pone más seria y más emocional, sobre todo cuando habla de las Gilmore Girls.

For Gilmore Girls fans...the beginning is a bit slow (though humorous), and you're told she will include her diary while filming the revival. The diary only constitutes about 15-20% of the book though. Quick, good read

I probably shouldn't admit that I cried throughout the entire last part that referenced Gilmore Girls, but I did. I would have loved for the entire book to be about that. But it was a quick, easy listen, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
